◆全国高等学校野球選手権大会は春と夏の年2回開催されます。
The National High School Baseball Tournament is held twice annually in the spring and summer.

◆春の大会の正式名称は選抜高等学校野球大会です。
The official name of the Spring Tournament is SENBATSU KOTO-GAKKO YAKYU-TAIKAI, the Invitational High School Baseball Tournament.

◆春の大会も夏の大会も兵庫県西宮市にある甲子園球場で開催されます。
Both the Spring and the Summer Tournament are held at the Koshien Baseball Stadium at Nishinomiya City in Hyogo Prefecture.

◆甲子園球場は阪神電鉄が1924年（大正13年）に建てました。
The Hanshin Electric Railway Co., Ltd. built the Koshien Baseball Stadium in 1924 (Taisho 13th yr).

◆プロ野球チームの阪神タイガースのホームグラウンドです。
The Hanshin Tigers, a professional baseball team, use this stadium as their home ground.

◆甲子園に出ることが全国の高校球児の夢です。
All the high school baseball players dream of participating at Koshien.

◆甲子園で優勝することは大変名誉あることです。
Capturing a victory at Koshien is very honorable.

◆高校球児が一生懸命プレイする姿に人々は魅了されます。
People are fascinated to see high school students playing baseball with such intensity.

◆若々しいスポーツマンシップとアマチュア精神が高校野球ファンを惹きつけます。
The youthful sportsmanship and amateur spirit attract the high school baseball fans.

◆人々がそれぞれの出身地の高校を熱狂的に応援します。
People feverishly support their local baseball team.

◆多くの人達がバスをチャーターして地元のチームの応援に甲子園へ駆けつけます。
Many people go to the Koshien Baseball Stadium by chartered buses and support their local baseball teams.

◆見逃せないのは見事に組織化されたチアリーダーやブラスバンドなどの応援です。
The remarkable thing is how well-organized cheer groups such as cheer leaders and brass bands are.

◆特に有名なのが大阪のPL学園のマスゲームでした。
The fan displays of PL High School in Osaka were particularly famous.

◆毎日新聞社と高野連によって春の大会は主催されます。
The Mainichi Newspapers Co., Ltd and Japan High School Federation hold the Spring Tournament.

◆春の大会の代表校は各都道府県より1校ないし2校、選抜されます。
In the Spring Tournament, the best or two best representative schools are selected from each prefecture.

◆選考委員がいくつかの試合結果や功績から判断して代表校を決めます。
The selective committees decide representative schools by considering the results of some games and the teams’ exploits.

◆たった一人の野球部員が不祥事を起こしても、チーム全体の甲子園でプレイする機会が奪われます。
Even if one member of the baseball team does something against the rules of conduct, the whole team will be ineligible to play at Koshien.

◆甲子園での試合の組み合わせは抽選で決められます。
The matching of the teams at Koshien is decided by lots.

◆第１回春の大会は1924年（大正13年）に名古屋の八事球場で開催されました。
The first Spring Tournament was held at the Yagoto Stadium in Nagoya in 1924 (Taisho 13th yr).

◆翌年から春の高校野球は甲子園球場で開催されています。
The Spring Tournament has been held at Koshien since the following year.

◆1942年（昭和17年）から1946年（昭和21年）までは第二次世界大戦のため大会は中止されました。
The Spring Tournament was suspended from 1942 (Showa 17th yr) to 1946 (Showa 21st yr) because of World War ll.
