【01 Chiyoda Ward－Tokyo Station】
東京駅の復元工事が2007年（平成19年）に始まり、2012年（平成24年）に遂に完工しました。2014年（平成26年）には100周年を迎え、さまざまなイベントが開催されました。その中ひとつ、東京駅のライトアップを見かけました。私は何度行っても東京駅でしばしば迷ってしまいます。この日も地下駐車場から上階に行くと、もう方向が分からなくなり、クリスマスオーナメントで飾られた駅構内をウロウロと30分以上彷徨いました。私が方向音痴だからか、たびたびテナントや看板が変わってしまうからか分かりませんが、とにかく東京駅は私にとっては広く複雑過ぎるのは間違いありません。
The restoration of Tokyo Station started in 2007 (Heisei 19th) and was eventually completed in 2012 (Heisei 24th). Tokyo Station celebrated its 100th Anniversary and various celebration events were held. I happened to see one of them, the Tokyo Station lighting-up event. Though I went to Tokyo Station many times, I often lost my way. After I parked my car in the underground parking lot on that day, I went up to the first floor and found myself already lost. Tokyo Station is undoubtedly too big and complicated for me.
歴史を感じさせる丸の内側とは大きく雰囲気が異なり、東京駅八重洲口は「先進性」と「先端性」をテーマに生まれ変わりました。駅前広場が整備され、開放的な空間が広がっています。2014年（平成26年）、偶然通りかかった八重洲口で輝いている光の柱を見ました。近付いて表示を読んでみると、東京駅開業100周年記念インスタレーション「Tokyo Colors. 2014」だと分かりました。グランルーフの通路に設置された28の風速計の情報を基に、風の流れを自動的にCGで可視化したり、発光ボールを変色させたりしていると記されていました。
Unlike the historical building on the Marunouchi side, Yaesu-guchi of Tokyo Station was reborn on the theme of “innovative sprit” and “advanced spirit”. The station square was improved to be a spacious open place. In 2014 (Heisei 26th), I happened to pass by Yaesu-guchi and found the pillars shining. The signboard said that this installation called “Tokyo Colors 2014” was an illumination to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Tokyo Station. The wind currents were automatically visualized with computer graphics and luminous balls were changing their colors by acquiring data from 28 wind gauges on the passages in GranRoof.

【01 Chiyoda Ward－Marunouchi】
東京のクリスマスイルミネーションの中で、どこがお薦めかと尋ねられても答えるのは難しいです。その人の年齢、性別、誰と行くかによってお薦めは変わってきます。しかし、1番好きなのを尋ねられたら、即答できます。丸の内です。優美で洗練されたシャンパンゴールドの光が大好きです。丸の内は大人のオフィス街です。イルミネーションの下を上質なスーツを着たエリート社員が颯爽と歩いていました。
If I am asked which illumination I would recommend in Tokyo, I cannot choose one because it depends on age, gender and companions. However, I can immediately mention the illumination which I like best. It is definitely the illumination in Marunouchi. I really like the graceful and sophisticated champagne gold light. Marunouchi is the office district for adults. Elite employees in high-quality business suits were smartly walking below the illumination.

2009年（平成21年）、東京国際フォーラムで「ストラスブールのマルシェ・ド・ノエル」が開催されました。クリスマスツリー発祥の地であるフランスのアルザス地方のストラスブールで1570年から開かれているクリスマス・マーケットを日本で再現したものです。日本未入荷の商品や、クリスマス時期にしか手に入らないものが、クリスマスの飾り付けをした木製の小さいお店で販売されています。前年の大盛況を受けて翌年の2010年（平成22年）に再び開催されたマーケットへ行ってきました。ベリージャムやクリスマスオーナメントを買ったり、食事やワインを楽しんだりしました。フランス人の売り子さん達が美男美女揃いで胸がときめきました。
In 2009 (Heisei 21st yr), “Strasbourg Marche de Noel” was held in Tokyo International Forum. This market was a reproduction of a market which had been opened since 1570 in Strasbourg, the Alsace District, France which was the birthplace of the Christmas tree. The small wooden shops decorated with Christmas ornaments were crammed with items which were not yet imported into Japan and were sold only during the holiday season. In 2010 (Heisei 22nd), the market was opened again as the result of the emphatic success of the previous year. We visited this market and bought berry jam and Christmas ornaments. We also enjoyed having meals and wine. We were excited about seeing beautiful French male and female salesclerks.

【01 Chiyoda Ward－Marunouchi Brick Square】
2010年（平成22年）の12月に家族で愛犬達を連れて、丸の内のブリックスクエアにある三菱一号館へ行きました。これは1894年（明治27年）に、イギリス人建築家のジョサイア・コンドルが手がけた日本初のオフィスビル「1号館」のレプリカとして2009年（平成21年）に建設されました。煉瓦造りの趣のある建物は光輝いてとても美しく、ヨーロッパのどこかの国の街角にいると錯覚しそうなほどでした。夫と息子がその中の美術館でレンバッハハウス美術館の所蔵展を鑑賞している間、私と愛犬達は写真を撮りながら外で待っていました。裏にある一号館広場のイルミネーションも素敵でした。
In December 2010 (Heisei 22nd), we went to Mitsubishi Ichigo-kan in Marunouchi Brick Square with our dogs. Mitsubishi-Ichigo-kan was built in 2009 (Heisei 21st yr) as a replica of the first Japanese office building built by the British architect, Josiah Conder in 1894 (Meiji 27th yr). Mitsubishi-ichigo-kan incudes a museum, a gallery, a shop and a historical reference book. The aesthetic brick building was beautifully shining, and I felt as if I had been walking along the street somewhere in Europe. While my husband and son were appreciating the artistic works owned by the Lenbachhaus in the museum, I was waiting with our dogs and took photos of them. The Brick Square at the back of the museum was also shining with a seasonal sparkle.

【01 Chiyoda Ward－The Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace】
丸の内ブリックスクエアを後にして、皇居外苑で開催されている5回目となる光の祭典「光都東京LIGHTOPIA 2010」（こうととうきょう・らいとぴぴあ2010）を見に行きました。和田倉噴水公園の「アンビエント・キャンドルパーク」は噴水と小学生や著名人が描いた600本あまりの「灯り絵」のお祭りです。皇居のお堀では「光のアート・インスタレーション 光流（こうりゅう）」です。
After we left Marunouchi Brick Square, we went to the Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace for the fifth-annual light festival “Kouto Tokyo LIGHTOPIA 2010” (The Shining Capital Tokyo LIGHTPIA 2010”. “Ambient Candle Park” in Wada Fountain Park was the festival of fountains and around 600 candles painted by elementary students and celebrities. “Hikari-no-art installation Koryu” (The Shining Art Installation, Koryu (Light Stream) was along the Imperial moat.

【01 Chiyoda Ward－Hibiya Park】
日比谷公園には愛犬の散歩やイベントのため時々訪れます。江戸時代（1603－1867）はいくつかの上屋敷が存在しました。明治時代（1868－1912）になり陸軍操練所として使用される時期がありました。現在は16万平米の広大な面積を有する都立公園です。敷地内には市政会館、公会堂、音楽堂、図書館などがあります。テニストートも5面有り、ナイター設備を装備しているので、夜も使用可です。1903年（明治36年）の開園当時からある松本楼は私達家族のお気に入りのレストランです。公園の一角に全国に店舗を展開する日比谷花壇の支店があります。日比谷花壇は結婚式のブーケ、会場の装花、キャンドルサービス、両親への花束贈呈などのさまざまな結婚式に関する習慣を日本に紹介した、創業1872年（明治5年）の老舗の花屋さんです。毎年、そのお店の前に飾られるクリスマスツリーを見るのが楽しみです。
We often visit Hibiya Park to walk our dogs or join an event. Several Kami-yashiki (the main residence of high-ranking feudal lords) used to be there during the Edo period (1603-1867). This land was converted into an army training center for some time during the Meiji ear (1868-1912). Nowadays, it is a vast Metropolitan park of 160,000 square meters. Shisei-kaikan (Municipal Administration Hall or Municipal Research Building), a public hall, a concert hall and a library are on the site. There are 5 tennis courts with lighting facilities which allow us to play even in the evening. Matsumoto-ro, our favorite restaurant has been in business since 1903 (Meiji 36th yr) when the park opened. The branch shop of the Hibiya-kadan Floral which is found all around Japan is in one corner of the park. Hibiya-kandn Floral is a floral company established in 1872 (Meiji 5th yr). It introduced various bridal customs such as flower ornaments, candle services and presenting bouquets to parents of brides and grooms. I look forward to seeing a Christmas tree in front of the branch shop every year.

【02 Chuo Ward－Ginza】
銀座に足を運ぶといつも新しい発見があります。古くて新しい街です。毎年クリスマスイルミネーションを見るために出かけています。ハイブランドのお店のショーウインドには、クリスマスプレゼントにぴったりな一流品が美しくディスプレイされ、道行く人々の心をときめかせます。普段、物欲があまりない私でさえも、購買意欲をかき立てられて甘い罠にはまりそうになります。2012年（平成24年）も年中行事として銀座にでかけました。
We never visited Ginza without finding something new. Ginza has kept changing though it is a traditional town. We go to Ginza to see the Christmas illuminations every year. The first-class items which are suitable for Christmas gifts are beautifully displayed in the shops of high fashion brands. They sweetly try to tempt passers-by. Even I am almost tempted into buying them though I don’t usually have many materialistic desires. In 2012 (Heisei 24th), we went to Ginza as an annual event.
毎年クリスマスになると、銀座の街並みは競うように飾り立てたられ、よりゴージャスな雰囲気に包まれます。通りのスピーカーから定番のクリスマスソングが流れると、その時々の思い出が蘇ります。クリスマスシーズンの銀座を40年近くにわたり華やかに彩ってきた真珠のMikimotoのクリスマスツリーも2014年（平成26年）が最後となるということで見に行きました。2017年（平成29年）には新社屋のショーウインド中で純白のツリーとして生まれ変わりました。
Every time Christmas comes around, all the shops in Ginza are elaborately decorated as if they entered a competition. They make all of Ginza much more gorgeous than usual. When I listen to popular Christmas music from speakers on the streets, various memories come back to my mind. In 2014 (Heisei 26th), we went to Ginza to see the last Christmas tree presented by a famous pearl company, Mikimoto. The Christmas trees in front of Mikimoto brilliantly lit up the street for about 40 years in the holiday season. In 2017 (Heisei 29th), Mikimoto’s Christmas tree was reborn as pure white Christmas trees in the show window of its rebuilt building.
【03港区－東京ミッドタウン】
【03 Minato Ward－Tokyo Midtown】
もし宇宙に憧れているならば、ミッドタウンの冬のイルミネーションがぴったりです。「スターライトガーデン」と名付けられた約50万個の青いライトの前に立てば、一面の星の世界が広がります。宇宙をテーマにした輝く光は見る人の心を魅了し、音楽がロマンチックなムードを一層高めます。広い敷地がいくつかのゾーンに分かれ、「スターライトゾーン」、「スターダストゾーン」、「ウエルカムイルミネーション」、「ツリーイルミネーション」、「シャンパンイルミネーション」などそれぞれ工夫を重ねたイルミネーションを見せてくれます。また建物内では個性的なクリスマスツリーを見ることができます。
If you’ve always been a space fan, winter illuminations in Tokyo Midtown come close enough. Stand in front of the “Starlight Garden” with around five hundred thousand blue light bulbs, you’ll see a constellation of stars spread out over you. The shining lights which are arranged on the theme of the universe fascinate visitors and music adds a romantic atmosphere. The vast site is separated into several parts where we can enjoy various elaborate designs of Christmas illumination such as “Starlight Zone”, “Stardust Zone”, “Welcome Illumination”, “Tree Illumination” and “Champagne Illumination”. Besides them, unique Christmas trees are displayed in the building.
【03港区－六本木ヒルズ】
【03 Minato Ward－Roppongi Hills】
六本木ヒルズのクリスマスといえば、けやき坂や毛利庭園のイルミネーションが有名です。その向こうに見える東京タワーはキャンドルのように優しい光で街を照らしています。六本木ヒルズの展望台「東京シティービュー」では、毎年、ロマンチックなクリスマスの演出がされています。六本木ヒルズは、江戸時代に長府毛利家の屋敷があった土地に建設され、2003年（平成15年）に開業しました。54階建ての森タワーを中心として、いくつかの建物からなる巨大複合商業施設です。テレビ局、オフィス、ホテル、美術館、映画館、商店、レストラン、住宅などから構成されています。
As for Christmas in Roppongi Hills, the illuminations on Keyaki-zaka (the slope lined with Japanese zelkova trees) and Mori Garden are well known. Tokyo Tower over the slope is lighting the town with its tender light like a candle. Christmas romantic effects are arranged on the observation platform of Mori Building, “Tokyo City View” every year. Roppongi Hills was built on the site which the residence of the daimyo (the feudal lord) of the Chofu-Mori Family and opened in 2003 (Heisei 15th yr). It is a mega-commercial complex including 54-story Mori Tower and some other buildings: a TV corporation, offices, a hotel, a museum, movie theaters, stores, restaurants and residences.
【03港区－赤坂サカス】
【03 Minato Ward－Akasaka Sacas】
友人が赤坂見附の駅の近くで和食店を経営しているので、一緒に食事をした後時々赤坂サカスに寄りました。TBS放送センターや、レストラン、店舗、イベント会場などがある大型複合施設です。併設している赤坂ACTシアターへは何度かお芝居を見に行きました。春は多種の桜を楽しめ、夏は「TBS夏サカス」と呼ばれる大きなイベントが行われます。秋には桜の紅葉やハロウィンイベントも見逃せません。冬にはスケートリンクが出現して、スケートを楽しんだり、スケートのレッスンを受けたりすることもできます。赤坂サカスとその周辺はクリスマスツリーやイルミネーションで飾られます。
I sometimes stopped by Akasaka Sacas after I had meals with my friend who ran a Japanese restaurant near Akasaka-mitsuke Station. It is a commercial complex including the TBS Broadcasting Center, restaurants, stores and event venues. The Akasaka ACT Theater is located within the grounds of Akasaka Sacas where I saw plays several times. In spring, various kinds of cherry blossoms are in bloom, and in summer a big event called “TBS Natsu Sacas” (The TBS Summer Sacas Festival) is held. In autumn, we cannot miss red leaves of the cherry trees and Halloween events. In winter, the skate rink opens where people enjoy skating and take a skating lesson. Christmas trees and illuminations are shown throughout Akasaka Sacas.
【03港区－カレッタ汐留】
【03 Minato Ward－Caretta Shiodome】
2017年（平成29年）で第12回を迎えたカレッタ汐留のイルミネーションは、今や東京の冬のライティングイベントのトップ5に入るでしょう。約30万の青いLED球が、毎年異なったテーマで心残る演出をしてくれます。写真は2009年（平成21年）のもので、ヴァイオリニスト葉加瀬太郎氏が総合プロデュースした、約12分間の光と音楽のショー「BLUE OCEAN」が開催されていました。光の海で埋め尽くされた会場の中心には、「約束のツリー」が設けられ、写真を撮るために多くのカップルが列を作っていました。
Caretta Shiodome Winter Illumination is one of the top 5 places to see holiday lights in Tokyo. It marked the 12th year in 2017 (Heisei 29th). Around 300,000 LEDs create impressive sights with a theme which changes every year. The photos taken in 2009 (Heisei 21st yr) shows “Blue Ocean”, a 12-minute light and musical show which was produced by an eminent violinist, Taro Hakase. “The Promising Tree” was in the center of the blue brilliant ocean, and many couples were waiting in line for their romantic photos.
【05文京区－文京グリーンコート】
【05 Bunkyo Ward－Bunkyo Green Court】
時には数枚の写真を見るだけで数え切れないほどの思い出が蘇ります。家から近くて駐車場もあるので、週1，2回は文京グリーンコートの中のスーパーで買い物をしていました。そこにあるレストランで食事をしたり、画廊で絵を買ったりしました。時には愛犬を連れて散歩をしました。毎年、クリスマスの時期になると街路樹がLEDライトで装飾され、輝くおとぎの国のカボチャの馬車が登場します。この写真は2012年（平成24年）に撮りました。
Even a few photos sometimes remind us of innumerable memories. We would go shopping at the supermarket in Bunkyo Green Court once or twice a week because it was close to our place and there was a parking lot for customers. We had meals at the restaurants there and bought some paintings at the gallery. We sometimes took our dogs for a walk there. The street trees were decorated with LED lights and a shining pumpkin carriage from the fairyland. These photos were taken in 2012 (Heisei 24th).
【05文京区－東京大学 本郷キャンパス】
【05 Bunkyo Ward－Hongo Campus of Tokyo University】
本郷キャンパスの朱塗りの門は、1827年（文政10年）に加賀藩13代藩主前田斉泰（なりやす）が、11代将軍徳川家斉（いえなり）の娘の溶姫（やすひめ）を正室に迎えた際に建立され御守殿門（ごしゅでんもん）です。東京大学の愛称である「赤門」の由来となった門で、国の重要文化財にも指定されています。その門を通り抜け、まっすぐ進むと優しい光を放つイルミネーションが見えます。本郷にある東京大学の医学部2号館前のイルミネーションです。有志の方によって灯されたこの光が付属病院でクリスマスを迎える入院患者さんは見に来ることができなくても、その思いが心にまで届きますように。
Aka-mon (the red gate) at Hongo Campus of Tokyo University was a Goshuden-mon (the gate built for Tokugawa Shoguns’ daughters) built in 1872 (Bunesei 10th) when the 13th lord of the Kaga Domani, Maeda Nariyasu got married to Yasu-hime (Princess Yasu) who was the daughter of the 11th Shogun, Tokugawa Ienari. Aka-mon, a nickname of Tokyo University came from this gate and it was designated as a national important cultural property. When you walk through the gate and go straight, you will see the soft illumination in front of building No.2 of the medical department. I wish these lights decorated by some volunteers would reach the patients’ hearts in the affiliated hospital though they cannot come to see them.
【05文京区－東洋大学白山キャンパス】
【05 Bunkyo Ward－Hakusan Campus of Toyo University】
夜間に住宅街を抜ける旧白山通りを車で走っていると、明るいLEDの光が突然目に入りました。東洋大学の白山キャンパスの「光の柱」でした。東洋大学のイメージカラーである青を基調としたイルミネーションが、さまざまな色に変化していました。キャンパスらしい、落ち着いた雰囲気で好きでした。しかし理由は分かりませんが、数年前を最後に、ここでクリスマスイルミネーションを見ることはありません。東洋大学の他のキャンパスでは、まだクリスマスイルミネーションが点灯されているようです。
When I drove along Kyu-Hakusan-dori (the Former Hakusan Street) through the residential area at night, I suddenly caught sight of bright LED lights. They were “Hikari-no-hashira (the Pillars of light) in Hakusan Campus of Toyo University. The illumination was based around blue which was the symbol color of Toyo University and changed into various colors. I liked its peaceful atmosphere suitable for the university campus. However, it was several years ago that a Christmas illumination was lit there last though I don’t know the reason. The other campuses of Toyo University still hold the events of Christmas lights.
【05文京区－播磨坂】
【05 Bunkyo Ward－Harima-zaka】
桜並木の播磨坂は愛犬のいつものお散歩コースです。普段は地元の人だけが歩いている、落ち着いた住宅街の坂道ですが、桜の季節には花見客で賑わいます。この坂はたまにドラマの撮影に使用され、有名俳優や女優を何度か見かけたこともあります。愛犬を撮るために首からぶら下げていたカメラを鞄に入れるようにスタッフに言われ、撮影現場は撮るつもりはありません！と憤慨して言った思い出があります。冬には、桜色のライトをまとった並木道を散歩するのが好きです。
Harima-zaka Slope lined with cherry trees is one of our dogs’ walking courses. Except for local people, not many individuals usually walk along this slope in the residential area, but so many people visit this slope to see cherry blossoms during the season. This slope is occasionally chosen as shooting locations and I saw famous actors and actresses a few times. One day I was walking there with my camera hanging from my neck, and a member of the shooting staff told me to put my camera into my bag. Therefore, I angrily told him that I had a camera not for taking the actors and actresses but my dogs. In winter, I really like to walk along the quiet avenue under the cherry trees which are dressed in pinkish lights.

【05 Bunkyo Ward－Tokyo Dome City】
それぞれの異なる趣で我々を楽しませてくれる東京のクリスマスイルミネーションですが、東京ドームシティではとても可愛らしく、個性的なクリスマスアートを見ることができます。毎年、ほとんど同じオブジェですが、却って心がなごみます。家から車で5分の距離にあり、敷地内のスターバックスで買ったカプチーノを片手に愛犬と散歩したり、スーパーマーケットで買い物をしたりします。クリスマスシーズンの週末でも夜は意外に混雑していなくて、程よい大きさの敷地なので、私達にとって居心地の良い場所です。いつの日か孫ができたら、一緒に光るメリーゴーランドに乗ってみたいと思います。
Christmas illuminations in Tokyo attract us with their individual ideas, and as for Tokyo Dome City, we can enjoy very lovely original Christmas art. It gives us peace of mind all the more because there are no big changes every year. It is within a 5-minute driving distance, so we often walk our dogs with cups of cappuccino from Starbucks there in our hands and buy groceries at the supermarket. This is not so crowded even in the Christmas season if we go there at night, and it has moderate size amusement facilities, so it is a comfortable place for us. I am dreaming to ride a shining merry-go-round someday with my future grandchildren.
東京ドームに隣接するショッピングモールのラクーアでも、クリスマスの時期は可愛らしく飾られます。さまざまなイベントが開催されます。特に子供達が喜ぶものが行われます。この日は遊園地のメリーゴーランドの前でサンタクロースと赤鼻のトナカイが、人工雪を降らしていました。子供達は雪をキャッチしようと大興奮でした。
La Qua, the shopping mall which adjoins Tokyo Dome is fantastically decorated during the Christmas season. Various entertaining events are held, especially for children. Santa Claus and the red-nosed reindeer were spraying artificial snow on children in front of the merry-go-round in the amusement park on the day I went shopping there. The children were excitedly catching the snow.
【06台東区－上野公園】
【06 Taito Ward－Ueno Park】
2012年（平成24年）の12月、家族で上野公園へ愛犬の散歩に行きました。暗闇の中、上野動物園の近くでキリン、ゴリラ、サル、リス、クマなどの光る動物を見つけました。洗練された豪華なイルミネーションも素敵ですが、このような可愛いオブジェも大好きです。お子さんに見せてあげると良い思い出になるのではないでしょうか。散歩中、その年の4月に公園内の「竹の台広場」でオープンしたスターバックスに寄りました。木を基調とする落ち着いた店構えが上野の森と調和しています。嬉しいことに外のテーブル席は犬連れでもOKです。
In December 2012 (Heisei 24th yr), we took our dogs for a walk to Ueno Park. We found the animals such as giraffes, a gorilla, monkeys, squirrels and a bear sparkling in the dark near Ueno Zoo. I like such cute decorations as well as refined gorgeous illuminations. This was a good place to visit with children. While we were walking in the park, we dropped in Starbucks which just opened in “Take-no-dai Hiroba” (Take-no-dai square) in April of that year. The relaxing shop mainly made of wood harmonizes with Ueno Woods. The good news was that dogs were allowed at the terrace seats.
【07墨田区－東京スカイツリー】
【07 Sumida Ward－Tokyo Skytree】
2013年（平成25年）12月23日クリスマスムードいっぱいのスカイツリーへ写真を撮りに行ってきました。ダメ元で息子を誘うと、クリスマスのデートは翌日なので、その日は予定がないとかで私に付き合ってくれました。日本ではキリスト教以外の若い人にとって、クリスマスは家族と過ごすというより、どちらかと言えばロマンチックなデートを楽しむ時になのです。スカイツリーの足元に広がる広場ではソラマチクリスマスマーケット2013が開催されていました。ドイツ直輸入の「ヒュッテ」と呼ばれる小屋は、細部までこだわった空想的なデザインでした。所狭しと素敵なクリスマスグッズが並んでいました。可愛いツリーのカップ付きのホットワインを頂きました。
On December 23rd, 2013 (Heisei 25th yr) I asked my son to join me in taking photos of Tokyo Skytree full of a Christmas atmosphere though I was thinking probably he was busy dating. However, he accepted my offer because he would date with his girlfriend the next day. Christmas for young people except Christians is a romantic dating time rather than a family time in Japan. Solamachi Christmas Market 2013 was held in an open space at the foot of the Skytree. “Hütte”, small stalls imported directly from Germany were fantastically designed with attention to every detail. Wonderful Christmas items were piled up all round the stalls. We bought hot wine in a cute cup of a Christmas tree.
11月1日からの2ヶ月間、スカイツリーは日本一の高さを誇る天空のクリスマスキャンドルになります。5種類の限定ライティングが灯されるなかで、私達が見た日のスカイツリーは、赤く灯ったキャンドルでした。タワー内も可愛く飾られ、温かい雰囲気に包まれていました。展望台から見る夜景は、昼間の表情とガラリと変わり、とてもロマンチックでした。
Skytree turns to be the gleaming celestial candle which is the tallest in Japan for 2 months from November 1st. We saw the candle in red out of five kinds of limited lighting. The inner part of the tower was adorably decorated and filled with a warm atmosphere. The night view from the observation platform was quite different from the daytime view.
スカイツリーを下りて外にでると、リズミカルな音楽が聞こえてきました。プロジェクションマッピングが、その音楽に合わせて色とりどりの映像がスカイツリータウンの壁に映し出されていました。スカイツリータウンでは、大人から子供まで楽しめるイベントがいろいろ開催されていました。クリスマスイブの前日だったせいか、意外に混雑していなくて、ゆっくり楽しめました。
When we descended from the Skytree and went out, music was rhythmically played. Projection mapping was showing on the wall of the Skytree to the music. Various events which anyone from adults to children could enjoy were performed in Skytree Town. The Skytree and the facilities around it were not very crowded maybe because it was the day before Christmas Eve.

【10 Meguro Ward－The Meguro River】
銀座を後にして目黒へ向かいました。夜間はいつもひっそりとした目黒川沿いの小径が、休暇に向けて神秘的なおとぎの国に姿を変えていました。2.2kmにわたり、桜の街路樹に42万個以上の電球が光り、川面に映る桜色が風に揺れてとてもきれいでした。春にはこれらの桜の木が本当に満開になり、多くの人が花見に訪れます。
We left Ginza for Meguro. The pathways along the Meguro River which were usually quiet at night transformed into a magical wonderland for the holiday season. More than 420,000 bulbs on the cherry trees spread out over you along the entire 2.2-kilometre stretch of pathways. A wind beautifully ruffled the cherry pink surface of the river. In spring, many people come and enjoy these cherry trees in full bloom.
2014年（平成26年）中目黒の目黒川沿いに「Nakameguro 青の洞窟」のイベントが開催されました。私の好きなアーチストがプロモーションをしていたので、これは見逃せないと出かけました。神秘的な青色の光の演出とお酒の両方に酔いしれる人で大混雑でした。あまりの人気ぶりで、安全確保が難しくなり土日祝日の点灯が中止になりました。人をかき分けても見る価値が絶対あると思い、翌年も楽しみにしていましたが、残念ながら中目黒の開催は一度限りとなりました。青の洞窟は渋谷に場所を変えて2017年（平成29年）に復活しました。青い電球の数も約60万個に増えました。足元の通りがゆらゆら光り、水面のように見えてとても美しかったです。
“Nakameguro Blue Grotto” was held along the Meguro River in Nakameguro in 2014 (Heisei 26th yr). The event promotions by my favorite artists urged me to go. The streets were congested with so many people who were intoxicated with mysterious blue light emitting representation and alcoholic drinks. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the lighting-up event on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays was canceled for safety reasons. This was surely worth joining despite its jam, therefore I wished this event would be held again the next year but it would never be held in Nakameguro again. In 2017 (Heisei 29th), Blue Grotto was revived in Shibuya. The number of blue light bulbs increased to around 600,000. The street at our feet reflected gently and beautifully as if it was the surface of the water.

【13 Shibuya Ward－Omote-sando】
2013年（平成25年）、代々木体育館で私の好きなアーチストのライブに家族で行ってきました。ライブ会場周辺はクリスマスムードを盛り上げるさまざまな趣向が凝らされていました。ライブの後、表参道で食事をすることにしました。フレンチやイタリアンなどのお洒落なレストランのどれにしようかと少し迷って、たどり着いたのが、有名なガレットのレストランでした。おとぎの国の人形の家のようなピンクがかった赤いお店は、どこを撮っても絵になりました。もちろんガレットもとても美味しくて、ご機嫌な一日になりました。
We went to Yoyogi National Gymnasium to attend a pop music concert of my favorite artist in 2013 (Heisei 25th yr). Various elaborate ideas were used to liven up the Christmas atmosphere. After the concert was over, we decided to have dinner at a restaurant along Omote-sando Street. We wavered which restaurant to go among swanky restaurants such as French or Italian cuisine. After a while, we finally reached a famous galette restaurant. It whisked us to a doll house in a fantasy world, and every part of the restaurant was truly photogenic. Needless day, delicious galette made me very happy on that day.
毎年、この楽しい時期になると、表参道はきらめく優美な光、工夫を凝らした装飾、そして光り輝く木々に包まれます。これは数回の中断はあったものの、1991年（平成3年）のより続いています。その年の1番の稼ぎ時に、最高に美しく着飾った店舗のショーウインドは、夢見心地の道行く人々を引き寄せようと魔法を使います。最高級店でさえも愛する人々にぴったりの贈り物を真剣に探す買い物客であふれています。
Omote-sando are bedecked with flickering fairy lights, elaborate decorations and twinkling trees during the season to be jolly every year since the first Omote-sando Christmas light-up in 1991 (Heisei 3rd yr) except for some suspensions. Passers-by lose themselves to see the best dressed stores whose window displays use magic to hook in them during the busiest shopping weeks of the year. Even the highest-grade stores are crowded with people hunting down perfect gifts for their loved ones.

【13 Shibuya Ward－Ebisu】
若い人に絶大な人気を博したテレビドラマの「花より男子」の撮影に何度も使われた恵比寿ガーデンプレイスは、若い恋人達の聖地のようになっていました。しかし、そのブームも過ぎ、本来の落ち着いた大人の雰囲気を取り戻しています。毎年11月からお正月にかけてセンター広場に設置される、世界一の大きさを誇るバカラシャンデリアは訪れる全ての人を引き寄せます。思わず見とれてしまうほどの美しさです。そのシャンデリアのすぐそばのシャトーレストラン、ジョエル・ロブションで、見事なお料理と絶妙な接客を友人と楽しく語り合いながら楽しみました。
Young couples formerly flocked to Ebisu which used to be a sort of young couples’ holy place because it was a filming location of “Hanayori-danshi”, a popular TV drama among young people. However, the boom was over and Ebisu in a mature atmosphere was revived. The world’s biggest Baccarat chandelier placed annually in the Center Square from November to New Year days, attracts all the people visiting there. I enjoyed a marvelous dinner and chatting with my close friend at a château restaurant, Joël Robuchon near the chandelier.
【13渋谷区－新宿サザンテラス】
【13 Shibuya Ward－Shinjuku Southern Terrace】
新宿サザンテラスは新宿という土地名がついていますが、実は渋谷区代々木2丁目にあります。1998年（平成10年）に完成した遊歩道です。2006年（平成18年）にはJR新宿駅のサザンテラス改札口が新設され、高島屋方面へ行くのに便利になりました。同年12月にはクリスピー・クリーム・ドーナツの日本国内第1号店がオープンして、毎日多くの人が列をなして話題になりましたが、2017年（平成29年）に閉店しました。毎年冬に、タカシマヤタイムズスクエアとJR東日本の共同開催でイルミネーションライトアップが実施されています。
Shinjuku Southern Terrace is not actually in Shinjuku, but is in 2-chome, Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku. This promenade was built in 1998 (Heisei 10th). The Southern Terrace Exit of JR Shinjuku Station was newly opened in 2006 (Heisei 18th) and thanks to this exit, people can go to Takashimaya Department Store more easily. In December of the same year, the first Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store opened there and so many people lined up to buy doughnuts every day; however, it was closed in 2017 (Heisei 29 yr). Takashimaya Times Square and East Japan Railway Company jointly host an annual event of the winter illumination.
【16豊島区－池袋駅前】

私が初めて池袋に興味を持ったのは、2003年（平成15年）にヒットしたテレビドラマ「池袋ウエストゲートパーク」でした。今思えば、当時の、そして後の大スターの名前が並ぶ豪華キャスト陣でした。脚本の宮藤官九郎さんとチーフ演出の堤幸彦さんがタッグを組んだ作品が、面白くないわけはありません。そんなカオスのドラマにふさわしい舞台がまさに池袋です。駅の東側にあるのが西武百貨店で、西側にあるのが東武百貨店だというだけで、池袋に不慣れな人は戸惑います。お洒落なアパレルショップ、ラーメン屋、学習塾、銀行、風俗店など雑多な店が、同じ通りに並ぶ光景は衝撃的です。最近、特に東側はどんどんお洒落になっていますが、まだまだ雑然としています。しかし私はそんな池袋が結構好きで、時々出かけます。そんな個性的な池袋ですから、東京の他の街と違って池袋駅はほとんどクリスマスイルミネーションに力を入れていないようです。
When I watched the big hit TV drama “Ikebukuro West Gate Park” in 2003 (Heisei 15th yr), I first got interested in Ikebukuro Town. Looking back now, some of the glamourous screencast were already stars those days, and many others have become big stars today. The work which was written by Kankuro Kudo and mainly produced by Yukihiko Tsutsumi is certainly a masterpiece. Ikebukuro is a suitable place for a chaotic drama. A stranger around Ikebukuro is confused only by the fact Seibu (literally the west of the Musashi region) Department Store is at the east exit, and Tobu (literally the east of the Musashi region) Department Store is at the west exit. The various shops such as stylish apparel shops, ramen restaurants, cram schools, banks and sex industries shockingly line up on the same streets. Recently, the town especially on the east side has been getting refined but is still chaotic. However, I still like Ikebukuro and sometimes go there. As Ikebukuro is a unique place, it does not place emphasis on its Christmas illuminations apart from other towns in Tokyo.

池袋駅西口から西方へ賑やかな通りを5分ほど歩くと、急に落ち着いた街並みになり、更に数分歩くと落ち着いたアカデミックな建物に到着です。立教大学、別名セント・ポール大学に到着です。1922年（大正11年）創立の日本聖公会系の私立大学です。赤煉瓦造りの歴史ある本館前に立つ樹齢100年の2本のヒマラヤスギが、色とりどりの優しい光に包まれていました。毎年、キャンパス内のチャペルではクリスマス礼拝やハンドベルのコンサートが開かれます。
When you walk along the busy street to the west of the East Gate of Ikebukuro Station for around 5 minutes, there is a quiet and calm atmosphere all around. A few more steps will bring you to the academic buildings of Rikkyo University, also known as Saint Paul’s University. It is an Anglican Christian affiliated private university established in1922 (Taisho 11th yr). Two 100-year-old Himalayan cedars in front of the historical brick main building are covered with colorful soft lights. The Christmas worship and a hand-bell concert are held at the chapel on the campus every year.
