It was warm and clear on December 23rd,\u00a0the Emperor\u2019s Birthday, in 2009 (Heisei 21st yr).
\nI had long wanted to visit the palace for the Emperor\u2019s birthday,\u00a0so I decided to realize it on that day.<\/span><\/p>\n

I got off the subway at Otemachi Station and walked to the main gate.
\nAt first I saw a baggage corner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well-wishers underwent security checks by the Imperial guards.<\/span><\/p>\n

We went into the Imperial Palace through the main gate.
\nThere stood the Imperial guard in a formal uniform.<\/span><\/p>\n

The well-wishers gathered in front of Chowa-den (reception hall) one after another.
\nI had thought that most well-wishers were elderly people,\u00a0but actually there were more younger people than elderly people.
\nI saw a lot of foreigners, too.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u9593\u3082\u306a\u304f\u5929\u7687\u965b\u4e0b\u3001\u7687\u540e\u965b\u4e0b\u3001\u7687\u592a\u5b50\u540c\u5983\u4e21\u6bbf\u4e0b\u3001\u79cb\u7be0\u5bae\u540c\u5983\u4e21\u6bbf\u4e0b\u304c\u9577\u548c\u6bbf\u30d9\u30e9\u30f3\u30c0\u306b\u304a\u51fa\u307e\u3057\u306b\u306a\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002

Before long, the Emperor and Empress, the Crown Prince and Princess\u00a0and the Prince and Princess Akishino\u00a0appeared on a balcony of the Chowa-den.
\nThe Emperor\u00a0gave a short speech to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n

The well-wishers waved small Japanese flags of HINOMARU<\/em> (the Rising Sun).
\nAnd then they gave three BANZAI<\/em> (cheer in a Japanese way)\u00a0saying \u201cLong live our noble Majesty!\u201d.
\nTo my surprise, Chinese and Koreans also gave BANZAI<\/em>.
\nThe Emperor and the other royal families waved back to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the news,\u00a0a record number of well-wishers visited the Imperial Palace.
\nIt was reported that as many as 23,928 people\u00a0participated in the morning event alone.<\/span><\/p>\n
