\nThe purpose of the ceremony is to raise firefighters\u2019 morale and the general public\u2019s awareness of fire prevention.<\/p>\n

\nThe origin of Dezome-shiki can be traced back to the beginning of the Edo period (1603-1867).<\/p>\n

\u25c617\u4e16\u7d00\u4e2d\u9803\u307e\u3067\u3001\u6c5f\u6238\u306b\u306f\u5341\u5206\u306a\u6d88\u9632\u7d44\u7e54\u304c\u6574\u3063\u3066\u3044\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002
\nUntil the mid-17th century, the official firefighting system was not well organized in Edo (the Japanese capital city from 1603 to 1867).<\/p>\n

\u25c6\u5f53\u6642\u306e\u6c5f\u6238\u3067\u306f\u5927\u706b\u304c\u305f\u3073\u305f\u3073\u8d77\u3053\u308a\u30011657\u5e74\uff08\u660e\u66a63\u5e74\uff09\u306b\u306f\u6c5f\u6238\u306e6\u5272\u4f59\u308a\u304c\u6d88\u5931\u3059\u308b\u660e\u66a6\u306e\u5927\u706b\u304c\u767a\u751f\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002
\nIn those days, great fires often broke out in Edo and the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657 (Meireki 3rd yr) destroyed more than 60% of Edo.<\/p>\n

\u25c6\u5185\u95a3\u5e9c\u306e\u30a6\u30a7\u30d6\u30b5\u30a4\u30c8\u306b\u3088\u308b\u3068\u3001\u706b\u4e8b\u306b\u3088\u308b\u6b7b\u8005\u306f\u7d0468,000\u4eba\u306b\u3082\u9054\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002
\nAccording to the website of the Cabinet Office, the death toll from the fire reached as many as 68,000.<\/p>\n

\nAfter this calamity, Jobikeshi was institutionalized as a new firefighting system under the direct control of the shogunate (the Edo government).<\/p>\n

\u25c61659\u5e74\uff08\u4e07\u6cbb2\u5e74\uff09\u306b\u5b9a\u706b\u6d88\u304c\u4e0a\u91ce\u6771\u7167\u5bae\u306b\u96c6\u307e\u308a\u6c17\u52e2\u3092\u4e0a\u3052\u305f\u306e\u304c\u51fa\u521d\u5f0f\u306e\u59cb\u307e\u308a\u3067\u3059\u3002
\nThe beginning of Dezome-shiki was that Jobikeshi boosted their spirits together in the first meeting at the Ueno-Toshogu shrine in 1659 (Manji 2nd yr).<\/p>\n

\u25c6\u660e\u6cbb\u6642\u4ee3\uff081868-1912\uff09\u306b\u306a\u308b\u3068\u653f\u5e9c\u306f\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u6d88\u9632\u7d44\u7e54\u3092\u4f5c\u308a\u30011875\u5e74\uff08\u660e\u6cbb8\u5e74\uff09\u306b\u7b2c1\u56de\u6771\u4eac\u8b66\u8996\u5e81\u6d88\u9632\u51fa\u521d\u5f0f\u304c\u884c\u308f\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002
\nThe government made a new firefighting system when the Meiji era (1868-1912) began, and the first Dezome-shiki was held by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and Fire Department in 1875 (Meiji 8th yr).<\/p>\n

\u25c61948\u5e74\uff08\u662d\u548c23\u5e74\uff09\u6d88\u9632\u7d44\u7e54\u306f\u8b66\u5bdf\u304b\u3089\u72ec\u7acb\u3057\u3066\u3001\u305d\u306e\u7fcc\u5e74\u7b2c1\u56de\u6771\u4eac\u6d88\u9632\u51fa\u521d\u5f0f\u304c\u958b\u50ac\u3055\u308c\u3001\u73fe\u4ee3\u307e\u3067\u7d9a\u3044\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002
\nIn 1948 (Showa 23rd) the firefighting system became independent of the police, and in the following year, the first Dezome-shiki was held by only the Tokyo Fire Department and has continued up to now.<\/p>\n

\nRecently, Dezome-shiki has been held by many local governments throughout Japan besides Tokyo.<\/p>\n

\nNowadays, the highlight of Dezome-shiki is Hashigo-nori, the ladder stunts performed by men dressed as firemen of the Edo Period.<\/p>\n

\u25c6\u6c5f\u6238\u306e\u753a\u706b\u6d88\u306e\u5404\u7d44\u306e\u6a19\uff08\u3057\u308b\u3057\uff09\u3068\u3057\u3066\u4f7f\u308f\u308c\u305f\u7e8f\uff08\u307e\u3068\u3044\uff09\u3084\u3001\u6d88\u706b\u3084\u52b4\u50cd\u306e\u6642\u306e\u97f3\u982d\u3092\u53d6\u308b\u305f\u3081\u306b\u6b4c\u308f\u308c\u308b\u6728\u9063\u308a\u6b4c\u3082\u6c5f\u6238\u60c5\u7dd2\u3092\u518d\u73fe\u3057\u307e\u3059\u3002
\nMatoi, the Edo firefighters\u2019 flags with each group\u2019s mark, and Kiyari-uta, songs for taking the lead in firefighting or labor, reproduce an Edo atmosphere.<\/p>\n
