　地下鉄大濠公園下車、徒歩約1分です。
　Take the subway to Ohori Park Station, and walk for about one minute.
　駐車場はありますが、花火の日は駐車できませんので、公共交通機関をご利用下さい。
　There are parking lots in Ohori Park, but they are closed on the day the fireworks display is held.

　Please use public transport facilities.

　大濠公園は約40万㎡の広大な面積をもち、福岡市の繁華街の西に広がっています。（写真1, 2）
　Ohori Park is a huge park, about 400,000 meters squared located to the west of downtown Fukuoka City. (Picture1, 2)

　1602年（慶長6年）黒田長政が福岡城を築城しました。
　In 1602 (Keicho 6th yr), Nagamasa Kuroda built the Fukuoka Castle.

　その際、博多湾の入り江をせき止め福岡城の外堀として利用しました。
　At that time, he made his men dam the inlet of Hakata Bay in order to use the water for the outer moat of the Fukuoka Castle.

　それゆえに中国の西湖を模した約23万㎡の池には、淡水魚と海水魚の両方が泳いでいます。
　Therefore, both freshwater fish and saltwater fish swim in the 230,000 meter squared pond, which was made to imitate Sai Park in China.

　1927年（昭和2年）ここで開催された博覧会を機に公園として整備されました。
　In 1927 (Showa 2nd yr), this place was made into a park when an exposition was held.

　1929年（昭和4年）に県営公園として開園しました。
　In 1929 (Showa 4th yr), the park opened as a prefectural park.

　柳やつつじなど緑豊かな美しい公園です。
　This is a beautiful park with a lot of plants, such as willows and azaleas.

　周遊道では散歩やジョギングをしている人も多く、福岡市民の良い憩いの場となっています。
A lot of people take walks or jog along the path in the park, and the park is the good place for relaxation for people in Fukuoka City.

　また日本庭園（写真3）、能楽堂、児童公園、野鳥の森、レストラン、ボートハウスなどもあります。
　There is a Japanese garden (Picture 3), NOGAKU-DO (a stage for NOH, a style of traditional Japanese drama), a children’s park, a wild bird forest, a restaurant, and a boat house.

　周辺には福岡城跡（写真4）、福岡市立美術館（写真5）、NHK福岡放送（写真6）などがあります。
There are the ruins of the Fukuoka Castle (Picture 4), Fukuoka Art Museum (Picture 5), and NHK Fukuoka (Japan Broadcasting Corporation Fukuoka Branch) (Picture 6) surrounding the park.

　この公園で毎年8月上旬に西日本大濠公園花火大会が開催されます。
NISHI-NIHON OHORI-KOEN HANABI-TAIKAI, the West Japan Ohori Park Fireworks Display, is held in this park at the beginning of August every year.

　ここでの第１回花火大会は1931年（昭和6年に）開催されました。
The first fireworks display in this park started in 1931 (Showa 6th yr).

　その後二度中断をしましたが、現在は福岡有数の大規模な花火大会です。
Now it has become one of the largest-scale fireworks displays in Fukuoka Prefecture with only two exceptions.

　私は家族と一緒に第37回花火大会に行きました。
　I went to the 37th firework display with my family.

　次々と空いっぱいに打ち上げられる6000発の芸術的な花火を堪能しました。
　We enjoyed seeing 6000 artistic fireworks which were shot into the sky, one after another.

　とにかくすごい人で身動きとれなくなり、将棋倒しになりそうでとても怖かったです。
　Ohori Park was so crowded with such a large number of people that we were afraid we might topple like a line of dominoes.
